A Web or Web 2.0 project is a mix of elements to be carefully balanced.
A structured and complete strategy to "enter the web" can require a significant investment both in organization and in specialized consulting.
Is a small company excluded form this opportunity ?
No, if "Effective" plays the game with one of its "
EffectiveWeb" projects that bring within the budgetary reach of small companies the skills and working methods which are typical of the big-players market.
The range of solution offered is wide and, sometimes, confusing: it seems that everyone can drive a successful web project, even a home-made one.
Nevertheless, regardless of the size of the investment, often happens that a web project, if and when completed, yields results largely poorer than expectations.
The skills necessary for a successful web project are several and, often, a deep level of expertise is required for each area of competence. It's not enough to involve a creative designer or a programmer or a marketing-genius to ensure the right mix of ingredients.
Among the skills required for a successful Web or Web 2.0 project are:
• Business Analysis
• Marketing and Communication
• Project Management
• System and Software Architecture
• Software Analysis and Programming
• Graphical Design
But, as a priority, the project requires the clear definition of goals, reasons and content/subject to share on the web.
A web project can have a simple marketing information/communication goal, and the look and graphical aspect are prevalent as part of the message/feeling/emotion targeted at the visitor; on the other hand, the project can be finalized to create an operative/applicative tool for sharing/interacting with the visitor therefore its content and functionality prevail on its graphical aspect.
In addition, Web projects require companies to put into service web 2.0 type tools, looking for the active interaction contribution of subjects far beyond the company organization; These projects require the creation of a "community" and must include tools such as Blogs, Forums and Social Networking. They should also be open to integration with general use web tools such as: FaceBook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Google Apps, Yahoo!, MSN Live, Skype, etc…
This trend is even more evident for B2C product/service enterprises which require to be present (or to better control) any web space where someone talks about them.
Therefore, it's important to have a clear view of your destination and think about how to get there.
EffectiveWeb: Preliminary Study
Effective has and lways has had the goal of identifying in advance for each project goals, path and budget. Our "Preliminary Study" is the first activity Effective leads in coopertaion with the Client and foresees:
• Target and Goals Analysis
• Identificatin of the communication strategy and style
• Competitors analysis
• Operational / applicative requirements analysis
• Eventual existing solution gap-analysis
• Architectural and technical requirements analysis
• Project budget
The "Preliminary Study" can be free-of-charge, for one-to-two days of assessment; for complex/structured business cases, which require extended assessment and deeper analysis, we usually share the cost with our client, as a reciprocal committment.
The "Preliminary Study" is an activity that Effective can perform on a consultancy basis when requested to define the requirements for a third-party project.
In fact, at the end of a "Preliminary study",
the Client always has the freedom to assign the project task to Effective, or to use the study result to start an in-house project
or to ask Effective to function as Project Manager in charge of coordinating third-party tasks.
Every prioject requires a certain level of Client's commitment and resources and this is the reason why even the best project "on paper" risks failing when assigned to external resources.
Small companies have limited resources availability and can hardly move their resources from the day-by-day business to reassign them to extraordinary tasks.
Effective can provide these companies with qualified resources that will work from inside a Client's organization as Client's resources, side-by-side with third-party consultants, providers, suppliers..
"EffectiveWeb Projects" are those where Effective is in charge of all resources, working on the basis of its proven methodology.
EffectiveWeb: Team and Project Resources
A decisive element for project success is that any of its phases are executed with tight cooperation between Effective and the Client, with a clear assignment of tasks and responsibilities to ensure the achievement of fixed goals.
The "
EffectiveWeb Project" foresees the creation of a Project Team led by an Effective Project Leader working side-by-side with a Client's Project Leader, each one responsible for the respective resources.
Effective will assign all neccessary resources to reach the goals, with particular reference to the following areas:
• Project Management
• System, Networking, Telecommunication, Analysis and Administration
• Analysis and programming for client/server and web software
• Webdesign
The Client will provide:
• Material (images, styles, fonts, colours, samples) to be provided at the start of the project, as originals or in electronic format.
• Content (text, documents to publish) and translations (if required)
• Human resources for the activities of competence (i.e. content data-entry)
• Internal and/or external hosting infrastructure (HW, SW, connnectivity and hosting services)
Both counterparts can involve further specialists and/or trusted partners:
• Legal advisors
• Image, communication and public relations advisors
• Professional graphic designers
• Hardware, software specialists
EffectiveWeb: Methodology
